First time I came to Bali because I had an interview with a manufacture company. The company produce knock-down house. I was put in a position of the technical designer together with my friend who has been there before me.

Time to time I learn the company produce high quality product and it’s not mass product. The products were manufactured with international quality standard, especially European building regulation. That’s why to match every country, the knock down house set up under 20sqm. Wood material used such as merbau, bengkirai and oak. The roof made up with merbau and other parts made up with oak, and supporting parts or additional parts made up with bengkirai.

There are many type built. The property type is just an open bale with measurement 2mx2m to 4mx5m. The open bale 4mx5m is the most searched by the customer from Europe. It could be varied with bathtub. And the price at that time was almost $45,000 for all oak wood quality (include the shipping price). The buyer is one who built resort on one island in Caribbean. The market also open to Tahiti, for my boss himself is from there. He told me that in Tahiti the building quality is low for resort needs, not like in Bali. Further more it’s more expensive than in Bali. Even if they built in Bali added with shipping cost from Bali to Tahiti it’s cheaper than to make in Tahiti itself.

Hmm…don’t you think it’s some crazy idea? I know some countries with limited resources and skilled labor but have great potential of tourism. Say it like Tahiti, Seychelles, and Maldives. Most of these countries import building material. This is very potential for business. And even if you plan to invest your fund in property field and the ownership of the land is just RIGHT TO BUILD not FREEHOLD, in other word the landlord let the land to you FOR LEASE in some period of time, wooden house with knock down system is smart choice.

What I told above is just one sample. Nowadays in Bali many companies do this. The customers come from all over the world. Last time I was asked to make 3D presentation for Rice Barn type which planned to send to Malaysia. Different company with different touch and type of construction method. The company not only send the component to destination countries, but also the some workers to set up the building.
